Project overview

Servcorp’s leadership team believes in the power of video to communicate its messages to the world. And it seems this belief is well founded. The company usually sees a jump in sales when they run video campaigns.

Paradigm has been producing a wide variety of live action and animated videos for Servcorp, often requiring graphic effects, over many years.

Setting a very high bar

Our first video job for Servcorp was a TV commercial. It had a very high production value, thanks to the then brand-new RED Digital Cinema camera (beloved by Peter Jackson, director of The Lord of the Rings) that we used to shoot it. The cinematic quality and the warmth of the image is still evident years later.

Servcorp was very happy with the final product.

An epic undertaking

Servcorp leases offices in extremely desirable locations in the world’s leading cities. The company was working on creating a global video — referred to by Servcorp leadership as The Epic Video — that showcases the buildings around the world in which Servcorp has offices. Drone footage had been collected from a dozen cities, including London, New York, Paris, Qatar, Singapore, and Sydney, but they had nothing comparable for Tokyo.

The Marunouchi area — one of Tokyo’s most prestigious business districts where Servcorp has five offices — is a no-fly zone for drones and permissions are not granted, in part because of its proximity to the Imperial Palace.

We proposed the only other option: renting a helicopter, fitting it out with a Shotover F1 gimbal mount, and hiring an aerial videography specialist to operate the camera. Servcorp’s CEO was pleased that we had come up with a solution.

We did the shoot as scheduled (with a couple of our team members art directing from the helicopter) and got the footage we needed to ensure Servcorp’s key Tokyo locations were well represented in The Epic Video.

Back at our computers

In addition to filming, we are involved in pre-production and post-production work. Depending on the project, we have Servcorp helped with scriptwriting, script editing, localization, video editing, voiceover recording, recording supervision, and mastering of the broadcast files (in Japan, you need to produce physical tapes for broadcast).

Some of the videos we make for Servcorp are animations, and we’ve created a number of characters over the years. On occasion, these videos we are used for other markets where Servcorp operates.

The commercials we make for Servcorp have appeared on channels such as CNNj, Fox (Japan), and Nikkei CNBC.

It’s really rewarding to know that, once our videos are broadcast, they are helping Servcorp to achieve its business objectives.
