The Pullman Tokyo Tamachi team wanted to hold a grand opening event for the hotel and needed an event manager to help them plan the party. They approached Paradigm to take on the job and make sure everything went smoothly on the night.
The hotel would be the 1,000th Accor group hotel in Asia Pacific, so it was an important event for those at head office in France. When we heard that a few Accor executives had decided to fly in to attend, we did everything we could to ensure it was a fun and successful grand opening — and to impress these very important guests.
Our project coordinators took a very hands-on approach to the planning, making multiple visits to the hotel, attending numerous meetings, and helping turn decisions into reality.
On October 4th, 2018, we welcomed around 500 guests — from the worlds of business, media, and culture — to the grand opening party. They enjoyed an incredible night of food, drinks, entertainment, music, and art.
We invited several of Tokyo’s popular influencers who tweeted about the event throughout the evening and posted photos on Instagram — posing with the hotel’s distinctive art and design details — to help promote the hotel. We also made a Pullman Tokyo Tamachi backdrop. Influencers, guests, staff, and organizers all took turns having their photo taken in front of it.
One of the themes for the night was purple, the Pullman brand color. The entrance was floodlit with powerful purple lights, there was purple lighting in the main party spaces and hallways, and guests were given a purple welcome cocktail, which we helped to create together with the guest mixologists.
The hotel prepared a range of appetizers and finger food that showed off the delectable offerings of the main restaurant, Kasa, and the ninth-floor bar, Platform 9, as well as the skill of the Pullman staff. Superstar bartender Roman Foltán was invited to be the guest bartender for the night, preparing a range of exceptional cocktails for the guests. They ate, drank, talked, and laughed while listening to the soundtrack of the night curated by DJ Elena Midori.
There was also an artist walking through the crowd drawing quick caricatures of the guests, which they could take home as a memento of the party. A close-up magician performed jaw-dropping tricks. And a contemporary juggler amazed small groups of guests with his distinctive performance juggling large glass balls, lights, and other unusual items.
Pullman Hotels is committed to supporting exciting new artists as part of its Artnight events. After consulting with Daniel Rosen and his team at TokyoDex, we commissioned the renowned artistic duo, WHOLE9, to paint an attention-grabbing mural on one of the main walls of Platform 9. One of the highlights of the evening was when the last strokes of paint were applied and it was announced that the art piece was complete.
Paradigm handled videography and photography for the event, capturing the style, energy, and excitement of the evening. The main areas were live streamed for those who could not attend.
The social media coverage beat the client’s expectations and helped place Pullman Tokyo Tamachi firmly among Tokyo’s best new hotels.
“To all the Paradigm team — Thank you! You have wowed them!” said Darren Morrish, general manager of Pullman Tokyo Tamachi. “Everyone has had nothing but great feedback from the opening party last night! Thank you so much for all you have managed to do under quite a challenging schedule. We look forward to continuing working with you on many exciting projects in the future.”
